Candidates for Election to the Faculty Grievance Committee
Michael Domjan, Professor, Psychology
I have been a tenured professor in the Department of Psychology for several decades. I agreed to have my name on the ballot because I think faculty participation is important for governance of the University.
Francisco Gonzalez-Lima, Professor, Psychology
As a tenured UT faculty for 35 years and former grievance officer, I argue that the current grievance process fails to protect faculty. Despite unanimous support from grievance committees, their recommendations are non-binding, allowing administrators to ignore them. Faculty also lack access to UT legal resources, unlike administrators. If elected, l will push for three key reforms: (1) creating a joint process between the Faculty Council and Provost’s Office to address issues before they become grievances, (2) providing UT legal representation for faculty, and (3) making grievance committee decisions binding. I aim to work with the new administration to implement these changes.
